Network Rail have announced that improvements to the railway crossing in Fen Road are likely to take place in 2026. In the meantime, Milton Parish Council is going to do its part by continuing to maintain areas around the crossing which are managed by the council.
Initially this will mean keeping the grass and weeds under control around the wooden bench. The next step is the renovation of the bench itself. The bench was originally owned by Great Eastern Railways and so we are going to repaint it in the famous GER livery. This will be ultramarine blue, black and red for the logo edged in gold. Work will begin in the next few weeks.
The picture with this news item is the bench as it is now. We are looking forward to updating it with an ‘after’ picture very soon.
More importantly, Milton Parish Council is in contact with Network Rail to improve helpline signage around the crossing which, at the moment, is there but not very visible. MPC want new signs in place now and not have to wait until 2026 when the crossing is due for an upgrade.
